What I need to know about the opening hours in Helsinki?

Most of the museums are closed on Mondays.
Department stores and many chain stores are typically open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Many stores close at 6 p.m. days before public holidays. On Finnish public holidays, almost all stores are closed

Where can I withdraw money?

Banks are normally open Mon–Fri 10–16.30. Cash withdrawals automats called ”Otto” and “Nosto” accept all major bank and credit cards.

Don’t worry. There are a few lost property offices in Helsinki. Enquiries for stolen or lost property may be made at any police station. The nearest to the city center is

Is there a post office in the center of Helsinki?

Yes, the main post office is located next to the Central Railway Station, at the so called Post House (Postitalo), address Elielinaukio 2. It’s open Mon-Fri 8–20, Sat 10-16 and Sun 12–16.

Helsinki has over 36 automatic public toilets (open 24/7) located in parks and along streets.

The faucet water in Finland is of high quality and you can safely drink it.


The city of Helsinki offers a free WLAN-service. No passwords or regis- tration required. Just look for ”Helsinki City Open WLAN” from the available neworks. Nearly all cafés, restaurants, shops and shopping centres offer free Wi-Fi.
