Kallio has a new café! Check it out!

A new café called IPI Kulmakuppila opened last week on the corner of Porthaninkatu and Viides Linja. The trendy and spacious two-storey cafeteria’s concrete floors, oak surfaces, abundance of white and numerous potted plants make for a fine example of Scandinavian design. The space is illuminated by a number of elegant lamps of different design and the tableware is harmonious and beautiful. Every detail down to the staff uniforms has been considered carefully, but this has been done without trying too hard, retaining a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere.

A special feature of this cafeteria is that it employs 12 mentally handicapped adults. They have trained brewing special coffees and practised customer service at a workshop organised by the non-profit association Lyhty.

Chef Markku Luola is in charge of the kitchen, which prepares food using fresh ingredients and seasonal produce. Customers can look forward to a tasty breakfast, salad and soup lunches, a Saturday brunch as well as a selection of delicious cafeteria products. The premises are licensed to serve wine and beer. The café is open from 8am to 8pm Mon-Fri and from 10am to 5pm on Saturdays.
